UniBen ACTU Training Programme

The ICPC Commissioner for Edo State with the Former DVC Acad, Uniben and the Chairman, ACTU Uniben and others

The University of Benin Chapter Of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit ACTU, today organised a 1-day training workshop in conjunction with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission. The Workshop took place at the Senate Chambers of the University Of Benin. The event was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin , Prof F.F.O Orumwense, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Abiodun Falodun.He stated that the University was committed to transparency in dealing with staff , students and the general public.

A brief Keynote Address was also presented by the ICPC Commissioner for Edo State Dr Olusesan Olukiye. Prof Mrs Abhor Ighoroje the ACTU Coordinator in the University of Benin was thankful to all those,who were able to make it to the event. After the opening ceremony, the Desk Officer for ICPC Edo Samuel Odebanjo gave a talk on “Overview of the ICPC and it’s Structure”. After his talk , members of the audience asked questions on various issues pertaining to what they heard him say. It was agreed by the Audience that lack of information, uneducation and a leaning towards accepting “Corruption” as part of our culture has caused a very big problem.

Another point raised was the failure to implement punishment for laws no matter how small. Mr Odebajo said there was a “little light out of the tunnel” as the country had been makig “baby steps” up the Transprency Index ladder, though more was required for the Nation to move higher.
Another Talk was giving by Barrister I Ofili on “Positioning ACTU for Effective Discharge of its Mandate”. After this talk, the workshop was brought to a close.
