Inauguration of ACTU in UniBEN

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Edo State has inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the University of Benin. The inauguration took place on Tuesday, 12th of April, 2016.
The inauguration took place under the chairmanship of the state commissioner of ICPC Edo State. Also in attendance were ACTU members from various organizations and institutions. The ICPC Desk officer for Uniben ACTU was also present.
The chairman of the newly inaugurated unit is Professor (Mrs.) Ahbor Ighoroje. Other members are Prof (Mrs) Asien, Prof (Mrs) . V. Onuorah, Prof D. Teilanyo, Prof (Mrs) Isenmila, Barr (Mrs) C.U. Anozieh, Mrs. P. Ojanero (representing Bursary Unit), Mrs Flora. Ehigator.
The State Commissioner, ICPC Edo state, congratulated the newly inaugurated Uniben ACTU members and commended the Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Prof. F.F.O Orumwense for approving the Unit. He praised the efforts the members of the unit has been putting in to the success of the unit prior to the inauguration. The state commissioner reminded the members that much is expected from them in stemming the tide of corruption in the Institution and the country in general.

In her response, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated ACTU Uniben, Prof.(Mrs.) A. Ighoroje, thanked the ICPC state commissioner and other members of staff for their support during the journey to the proper take of the ACTU Uniben Chapter. She had earlier introduced the members of the ACTU unit who were present and she later explained their various roles and functions in the unit. She asked the members of the unit to be committed to the fight against corruption.

There were several good will messages and exhortations from the members of the high table. Inclusive was a message from the President of ACTU Chairmen and Secretaries Forum. He let the new members of ACTU know the huge task that lays ahead of them and urged to stand up to corruption with integrity at all times. Others also provided motivational messages for the new members. The new members were mandated to be persons of integrity at all times, especially in their institution. They are to provide avenues for students to be able to report any case of corruption or other offences against them. They should also be diligent to investigate any reports that gets to them. They should also pursue reports that were reported to them anonymously.
